Dental Crowns At Paradise Dental Arts

FC – Dental Crowns At Paradise Dental Arts

When a tooth has been weakened or damaged, a basic filling won't return the shape and strength the tooth needs to function properly. Paradise Dental Arts of Oxnard, CA, provides personally tailored dental crowns to restore shape and strength to compromised teeth.

What are Crowns on Teeth?

A cap or crown is a total coverage restoration covering a tooth's exposed surface area. Crowns are placed when the core tooth structure is too decayed to hold a routine filling. As a result of decay, trauma, a root canal treatment, or severely worn-out dental work, a crown stabilizes the tooth and protects it against future destruction.

Every crown is carefully crafted to accommodate the individual needs of the patient. We use the latest materials, such as all ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and zirconia.

When Is a Dental Crown Needed?

Dental crowns are an appropriate option for a wide variety of situations, such as:

  • Large Cavities: When a filling would not have been sufficient to restore the remaining tooth structure.
  • Broken Teeth: A crown will stabilize the tooth and prevent it from any further destruction.
  • After Root Canal Treatment: After root canal treatment, a crown prevents the tooth from cracking.
  • Worn Teeth: Habitual grinding (bruxism) or acid erosion can weaken teeth, requiring coverage with a crown.
  • Failed Fillings Replacement: Cracked old big fillings that are dripping can be replaced with a crown to regain function.
  • Restoration of Dental Implants: Crowns are cemented over implants to restore a full, natural tooth.
  • Support for a Bridge: Crowns can be anchors on both sides of a dental bridge.

What to Expect During Your Dental Crown Procedure

Your dental crown procedure will be a two-visit procedure.

  • First Visit - Tooth Preparation
Dr. Fujii will then restructure the tooth completely to fit the crown. This involves removing any damaged or rotten portions and restructuring a perfect base for the restoration. After preparing the tooth, an electronic impression is taken so that it will fit correctly. A temporary crown will be cemented on top of the tooth to stabilize and protect the tooth until your new crown can be inserted.
  • Second Visit - Crown Placement
Once your completed crown is produced, Dr. Fujii will have the temporary removed and firmly cement the new crown. He'll also check your bite to ensure it's well-adjusted. The result is a tooth that functions just like one of your own.

Types of Crowns Provided at Paradise Dental Arts

We provide a range of different crowns that are customized to meet each patient individually:

  • All-Ceramic Crowns: Esthetically best and metal-free, these are a great choice for patients with a little metal sensitivity.
Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Crowns (PFM): They give the durability of metal and the look of porcelain and are most commonly placed on back teeth.
  • Zirconia Crowns: Strong and beautiful, zirconia crowns are wear-resistant and can be placed on the front and back teeth.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns have some benefits compared to restoration alone:

  • Improved Chewing Ability: You can chew and bite normally.
  • Protection from Further Damage: Crowns shield against further wear and fracture.
  • Strengthened Tooth Structure: Tooth structure is re-established.
  • Long-Term Result: Crowns last 10–15 years and more with care.
  • Ergonomic Fit: Personal crowns are contoured to sit comfortably alongside proximal teeth for an ergonomic fit.
